March 4, 2011 {Disney Trip}

Today . . .

· Waking the kids at up at 5am today was definitely not the highlight of my vacation. It wasn’t Samuel’s highlight either. Or the highlight of anyone else on our floor at Wilderness Lodge. Samuel absolutely freaked out when we woke him up and put him in the stroller to go and catch the Magical Express bus. He screamed all the way down to the bus stop until we could get him out of the stroller and pick him up.

· We woke up during the middle of the night to Samuel sleeping in our bed with us. We have no idea how that happened. He hasn’t been able to climb up onto the beds all week b/c they’re too high. Neither of us remembers lifting him up either. But that doesn’t say much.

· We dealt with the effects of a 5am wake-up call for the rest of the day. Namely with Samuel and Hope. We gave them some grace because we knew they were tired. We were too.

· The bus ride went well. Samuel loved watching the video of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto. There were more Disney characters on the video as well but Samuel only cared about those 4. Probably because he really only knows those 4. More than he knew 2 weeks ago!

· Security was a circus, as usual. My least favorite part of flying by far. Especially with three little kids. I can’t complain though – they let us keep our yogurts. The bonuses of flying with babies.

· We got on the tram to head for our gate. We never rode the monorail at Disney so we figured this made up for it. Samuel was thrilled to ride the “train”.

· We were at our gate for about 20 minutes before we had to born. We changed diapers, gave the kids yogurts and bananas, and fed Aliyah. We thought Disney was ridiculous when they required us to be on the Magical Express 3 hours before our flight time. We thought we’d have hours to sit at the airport and wait for our flight. We now know that Disney really does know what they are talking about!

· Hope and Samuel were both sound asleep on the airplane shortly after taking off. While we were waiting to take-off Samuel asked to go to “his room” (the hotel room). We told him it was time to go home to Samuel’s house. He said “nooo, go to Florida!” He wasn’t ready to go home!

· Aliyah slept for a little bit after taking off as well. Hope woke up after about 45 minutes. Samuel slept almost the entire flight. Daryl and I battled other airline passengers on a trivia game that we could play on our personal screens on the backs of the seats in front of us.

· Aliyah was very entertained by the girls sitting next to us. One of them blew a bubble with her bubble gum and Aliyah stared at her for like 5 minutes after that.

· I definitely lost the trivia wars. I am not smart and should never go on Jeopardy. But I would kick some serious booty on Wheel of Fortune!!

· We did our favorite thing to do in the Detroit Airport – run through the whole entire airport to make it to our next flight on time. Total Déjà vu from about a week ago. They were boarding the flight when we got to our gate.

· The flight from Detroit to Kalamazoo was nice and short. Aliyah didn’t think it was nice or short. I sat down on one side of the plane next to Hope with Aliyah in my arms. Daryl was opposite me with Samuel. The flight attendant informed me that Aliyah had to sit on Daryl’s side because there was an extra oxygen mask there but not on my side. I figured she’d be fine with Daryl so I just passed her over to him. By the time we were getting ready to take off she was screaming. She screamed pretty much until it was safe for Daryl and me to switch seats. Poor girl was exhausted and just wanted her Mommy.

· When we landed, Samuel didn’t even have to hold my hand! He sat up straight and watched out the window and took it all in. Such a big, brave flyer! He said “We on the ground, Mommy!”

· Savannah and my Mom were waiting for us. Samuel was so happy to see Savannah and barely even saw my Mom. Daryl went over to the Delta counter and showed them the damage to the BOB double stroller. Thankfully they will cover the cost of repairs.

· Aliyah fell asleep on the way home (around 2pm) and slept until 6pm in her own bed. I think she is happy to be home.

· Hope had a quick lunch and went down for a nap around 3pm. We woke her up around 5.

· Daryl made Mickey Mouse pancakes for supper. Samuel was so excited! His favorite meal is pancakes and he pretty much inhaled them tonight. I think he’s excited for familiar food.

· My parents came over in the evening for cupcakes and ice cream to celebrate Hope being home with us for one year! Samuel and Hope were both exhausted and were in bed sleeping by 8:30. Aliyah followed shortly after.

· We had a great vacation. Or, in Disney “lingo”, we had a magical week!!
