Today we headed out to the Kellog Bird Sanctuary for the morning. My Mom and Savannah came with us, much to Samuel’s and Hope’s delight. When we got there it was still pretty chilly outside. The sunshine was trying to peek out from behind the clouds but the wind made the air really cold. Hope probably had the most fun out of all of the kids. It’s hard to believe that when we went to the bird sanctuary last March that Hope was a bald baby – not even walking yet! What a difference a year has made! Hope had a great time throwing food to the ducks, geese, and swans. At one point her bucket was behind her and she turned around to find a goose eating right out of it. She grabbed her bucket, turned around, and put the bucket down right by her feet in front of her as if to say “take that, goose!” Savannah and Samuel had fun too but they probably had more fun chasing the geese than feeding them! Samuel fed them for a little bit but then all he wanted to do was find stones to throw into the water. We were probably there for just over an hour when it was getting close to lunch time and the kids were getting cranky because they were so hungry. We decided to head over to the playground at Gull Lake Bible Conference so that the kids could eat lunch and play. They loved the playground. It also helped that the sun was out at this point and we were sheltered from the wind so it was actually quite warm playing. Samuel and Hope both did a really good job of playing and going down the slides without me having to be right there with them. The free playground was probably more of a hit than the $2/person bird sanctuary! Isn’t that always how it goes? I was really impressed by Hope’s ability to get around the playground – climbing up steps and other climbing things as well as going down slides without really any fear. And Savannah is so good for Samuel – he does things that he’d never do without her around b/c he wants to be just like her! He absolutely loves playing with her! By the time we got home, Samuel’s face and hands were filthy – just how a little boy should look during the summer. I love it!
