Our 4th of July looked a little different this year. We are usually up at the cottage over the 4th but a combination of things made that not possible this year. We just got home from Florida yesterday and the fireworks up at the cottage were last weekend, plus, with 4th of July landing right smack dab in the middle of the week, it doesn't give you the freedom to go very far! With the weather being hot and humid with the heat index over 100, we decided to head for South Haven and Lake Michigan. I think everybody else in Southwest Michigan had the same idea. The beach was packed! But we had a great day and it was much cooler there than back in town (heat index at lakeshore was high 80s). Dad, Mom, and Anna came too as well as Ben and Anna. Ben and Anna are here for 2 weeks! We are excited about that!
Hope loves to cover herself in as much sand as possible. She definitely won the prize for the most sand in her swimsuit by the end of the day!
Initially, Aliyah didn't want to swim in the lake because the waves were scaring her. Uncle Ben and Daddy made her a fun pool to play in. Samuel and Hope loved playing in it just as much as Aliyah did! By later in the afternoon Aliyah got braver and was swimming/floating in the big lake as well as running in and out of it. She just needed some time to get used to it!
Walking the pier. At bedtime tonight when we asked Samuel what his favorite part and sad part of the day was, he said his sad part was "when I had to stop playing with the green ball to walk on the pier." His other sad part was leaving the beach. Samuel absolutely loves the water and has pretty much no fear as long as his puddle jumper is on. If a wave splashes up into his face, he'll just wipe the water away with his hand and keep on playing. That is big for Samuel! One of his favorite things today was playing "pass" with Daryl. Daryl had a little green ball that he would throw to Samuel and Samuel would dive for it and try to catch it. They played it forever but apparently he was still sad when he had to call it quits and take a walk on the pier! Can you guess what his favorite part of the day was? Yup - playing pass with the green ball! His other favorite part was running into the water and diving to Uncle Ben.
This cute little girl slept in until 10:45 this morning! I think she was making up for the week of not so good sleep that she had in Florida!
Watching the boats from the pier.
Grandpa and Samuel sitting on the end of the pier.
Uncle Ben and Hope decided to join them. Have I mentioned how happy we are that Ben and Anna are here for two whole weeks?!
I wish that Hope was in this picture too!
A family 4th of July picture - puddle jumpers and all!
Hope "surfing". There was just enough water in the pool for it to be a little bit of a challenge for her. She spent a lot of time doing this!
My Mom, Aliyah, and sister-in-law Anna all had navy polka dot bathing suits from Lands End! It definitely required a picture. :)
A 4th of July picnic at the beach. So much fun to spend the day with family at the beach! After supper we went down to the water for one last swim before heading home. The water temp was 72 - so warm for Lake Michigan!! It was a perfect 4th of July!
I wanted a picture of all 3 kids in their 4th of July outfits but in the end, a picture of just Aliyah was all that I got. Samuel never wore his outfit because it was short-sleeved with plaid shorts and just too stinkin' hot for short sleeves! Hope fell asleep on the way home from the beach and was so exhausted that she went right to bed without getting her picture taken. So . . . Aliyah it was!
Happy 4th of July everyone!
